Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

Although poverty reduction was not part of President Clinton’s rhetoric, with the assistance of First Lady Hillary Clinton he did attempt to pass a universal health insurance program in 1993 that would have been extremely beneficial to the poor.

Clinton also promoted and signed a 1993 law that significantly increased the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), a 1975 federal tax relief program designed to assist hard-pressed working families.
